Day 1: Slovenia – Timișoara
Elegant palaces, spacious squares, and our first festive impressions
We will set off eastwards in the early morning, arriving in Timișoara, one of Romania’s largest cities, during the afternoon.
Its centre is characterised by spacious squares, parks, and a rich architectural heritage, reflecting the city’s former importance and prosperity. Its elegant architecture and Central European character have even led some to compare it with Vienna.
During our walk through the old town, we will admire its fascinating palaces, squares, and streets. The afternoon will be devoted to enjoying the festive atmosphere, Advent stalls, and lively city centre.
We will then travel to the hotel for check-in and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Timișoara – Alba Iulia – Sibiu
An imposing fortress and the Advent charm of historic Transylvania
Today will be devoted to historic Transylvania and its picturesque towns. After breakfast, we will continue to Alba Iulia, a city that played an important role in Transylvania’s history.
Its defining landmark is the impressive star-shaped Alba Carolina Fortress with seven bastions, built in the early 18th century. After sightseeing, there will be some free time before we continue towards Sibiu.
With its rich cultural and artistic life, the city charms visitors with its fascinating historic centre, palaces, churches, and picturesque squares. In 2007, it shared the title of European Capital of Culture with Luxembourg.
During Advent, the city centre takes on a festive appearance, with numerous stalls and decorative lights. We will take time for a stroll, shopping for small gifts, and sampling local specialities.
We will then travel to our accommodation for hotel check-in and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Sibiu – Craiova
Through the Carpathians to a dazzling festive setting
A scenic journey through Romania’s varied countryside awaits. After breakfast, we will travel through valleys, past traditional Romanian villages, and across the magnificent Carpathian Mountains, enjoying beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.
Our route will bring us to Craiova, which shines in lavish festive splendour during Advent. Dazzlingly decorated streets, imaginative light installations, a Christmas market, and the aromas of mulled wine and traditional treats create a lively seasonal setting.
We will stroll through the decorated city centre and take time to browse the Advent stalls and mingle with fellow visitors.
After our visit, we will continue to our accommodation. Hotel check-in and overnight stay.
Day 4: Craiova – Slovenia
Farewell to Romania and a journey home with festive memories
After our delightful Advent experiences, it will be time to return towards Slovenia. Following breakfast, we will set off, enjoying a final look at Romania’s varied countryside and glimpses of its villages and towns along the way.
