Departure days: Tuesdays
Information and reservation:
This day trip takes you to the northeastern part of Slovenia to the Prekmurje region, known for its floating mills, storks and good food.
You will discover one of Slovenia's main rivers, the Mura, which gave its name to this region. In the past, the Mura has often changed the course of its waters, creating oxbows and islets in the middle of the river bed. One of these was called the Island of Love in the time of the Counts of Celje. The only remaining floating mill on the Mura can still be found here. Life in the old days is explained, such as transporting people and things from one side of the river to the other, or who the "büjraši" were and what they did. All this is shown during the visit to the "büjrastvo" museum.
The trip continues to the beautiful plantation Ocean Orchids where thanks to the geothermal water has grown a real tropical park. Visitors can walk among orchids, banana trees, vanilla trees, mimosas and other tropical plants.
Included in this program is also lunch consisting of traditional dish "bograč" and dessert "Prekmurje gibanica".
Another thing that is part of the culinary tradition of this area are the honey cookies made in the shape of a heart called "lect", which in the past were the most common gift for children. It will be possible to try them during the visit to the family that has been producing them for generations.
The excursion ends with a visit to the old round church in the small village of Goričko, which has beautiful frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries inside. Legend has it that the church originally belonged to the Templars.
