Vransko Slovenia

Vransko is located on the south-western edge of the Lower Savinja Valley. It is surrounded to the north-west by the Dobrovlje plateau with the Čreta mountain range, to the south-west by the Posava mountain range, and to the east by the settlements of Čeplje and Prekopa, extending into the central part of the Lower Savinja Valley. The municipality covers an area of 53,3 km². It comprises the settlements of Brode, Čeplje, Čreta, Jeronim, Limovce, Ločica pri Vranskem, Prapreče, Prekopa, Selo pri Vranskem, Stopnik, Tešova, Vologa, Vransko, Zahomce, Zajasovnik - part and Zaplanina. Legend has it that there was once a lake in the basin where the square is today, and that many crows lived by it. After the lake had dried up, a settlement grew up on the site, which was named after these marsh dwellers. The coat of arms of the town, which has symbolised Vransko Square since 1868 and has been the coat of arms of the Municipality of Vransko since 1999, depicts a crow standing on a branch of a deprived spruce trunk.
